What's in my bag

Nothing here is aspirational — this is the exact kit the photographs on this site were made with, checked against their EXIF. The longer story of why I still shoot a 2016 DSLR is in the journal.

The camera

Canon EOS-1D X Mark II

My only body since 2018. Rained on at Pumba, frozen in Iceland, salted at Bondi — it does not care.

The safari lens

Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM

Almost every wildlife frame on this site, most of them at the 400mm end.

The walkaround

Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM

Cityscapes, seascapes, long exposures at f/22 — the lens that's always attached when nothing's planned.

The wide end

Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L III USM

Night cities and starburst street lights — the Fearless Girl frame is this lens at 16mm.

The classic

Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM

Portraits, compression, and the high-key cormorant. The lens every Canon shooter ends up owning.

The stabiliser

DJI Ronin-S

For the motion work — and it makes a cameo in the mirror self-portrait that opens this site.

The body before · retired

Canon EOS 6D

The 2017 work here — the Bronte long exposures, the Cadillac at Bondi, the high-key cormorant — came from this one.
