Aerial view straight down a curved beach: orange sand meeting green-turquoise shallows, with dark vegetated rock outcrops breaking the waterline and bush-covered headland along the top edge.

Where the Rock Meets the Sand

Northern Beaches, Sydney · October 2016

DJI Zenmuse X5, 15 millimetres, f 2.2, 1/1919 of a second, ISO 112

The tide draws the line; the rock argues with it.

From directly overhead the beach stops being a place you walk on and becomes a drawing: one clean curve of sand, one band of green water, and the rocks refusing to go along with either. The Inspire was high enough that the two people down there are a couple of pixels, which is about the right scale for how much say any of us had in the composition.
