The small stone Church of the Good Shepherd at Lake Tekapo at night, its doorway glowing warm, under a sky dense with stars and the bright band of the Milky Way rising behind it, tussock grass and stone walls in the foreground and snow-dusted hills along the horizon.

The Good Shepherd, Under the Milky Way

Everyone photographs this church. The sky is why.

Probably the most photographed church in the country, under the sky that is the reason for it. Two frames from that night made the set; this is the wider one, with the church small under the whole arc of the Milky Way and the tussock and stone walls lit at the front. The doorway was lit from inside, which gives the frame its one warm point.
