A lifeguard tower on a wide beach silhouetted against an enormous orange sky, the sun sitting almost on its roof, two figures standing at the water's edge, one person seated on the tower's rail, a lone sailboat on the horizon and the sand in the foreground gone completely black.

Straight Into the Sun

February 2020

1D X Mark II, 105 millimetres, f 22, 1/250 of a second, ISO 500

One sun, one tower, one boat.

Shot straight at the sun, which is the thing you are told not to do, and exposed so that everything below the horizon becomes a black shape. The tower, the two people at the water and the one on the rail all come out the same tone, which makes them all the same size in importance. The sailboat on the left was a gift. I did not put it there.
