The Wing, Half-Mast

World Trade Center, New York · March 2021

March 2021. The plaza to myself, and the flags said why.

March 2021, the Oculus plaza empty in a way it is never supposed to be. I shot Calatrava's wing as a diagonal — one blade of white ribs cutting across the frame with One World Trade behind it — and only noticed afterwards how much the half-mast flags date the picture. The street-art hoardings on the right were wrapping another tower going up: the site never stops building. Warm-toned in the edit to pull the steel and the sky into the same metal.
