Trajan's Column lit at night among the standing columns of Trajan's Forum, two domed baroque churches behind it, umbrella pines at left, floodlights throwing small stars across the ruins and a couple of tiny figures on the walkway at the back.

Trajan's Column, After Dark

Rome, Italy · September 2021

1D X Mark II, 30 millimetres, f 22, 20 seconds, ISO 100

Two thousand years, floodlit.

Trajan's Column with its forum around it, lit for the night, and the two domed churches behind lit to match. The floodlights turn into small stars at a narrow aperture, which I like more than I should. The columns in the foreground are what is left of the forum; the people on the walkway at the back are what is left of the crowd.

Part of Rome, a series.
