Washington Street

DUMBO, Brooklyn, New York · February 2020

1D X Mark II, 45 millimetres, f 22, 1/500 of a second, ISO 2500

The most photographed gap in Brooklyn, and it still works.

The Washington Street view — brick warehouses on both sides and the Manhattan Bridge tower dropped precisely into the gap between them. It is photographed several thousand times a day and it is still a genuinely good composition: the cobbles pull you up the street, the buildings frame it hard on both sides, and the tower fills the slot almost exactly. I shot it early enough that the street was nearly empty.
