Black and white photograph looking down a narrow Manhattan side street at night, a streetlamp bursting into a hard star above wet cobblestones, tall buildings closing in on both sides.

Wet Cobbles

New York · February 2020

1D X Mark II, 24 millimetres, f 22, 1/250 of a second, ISO 100

Rain, cobbles and one streetlight doing all the work.

One of the few cobbled blocks left in lower Manhattan, shot after rain with the aperture closed right down so the single streetlamp goes to a hard star. Black and white because the only colour in the scene was sodium orange and it was fighting everything else. The buildings lean in from both sides and the wet stones carry the light all the way to the bottom of the frame.
