The Lower Manhattan skyline in pure silhouette against a clear blue evening sky, the setting sun bursting in a star between two towers, a construction crane on an unfinished building and the dark railing of a bridge walkway along the bottom of the frame.

Manhattan, Cut Out

New York · February 2020

1D X Mark II, 28 millimetres, f 22, 1/125 of a second, ISO 100

Every tower reduced to its outline.

Exposed for the sun and nothing else, so the city goes to a flat black cut-out and the sunstar is the only detail that survives. From a bridge walkway, with the railing and its lamps just catching the last light along the bottom of the frame. The crane on the right is the honest bit: Manhattan is never finished.
