Tower Bridge under an orange sky, its towers and walkways lit gold against an orange sky, the bridge's lights on and the whole structure mirrored in a glassy, long-exposed Thames, a moored pontoon at left and a lamp-lined embankment wall at right.

Lights on, nobody on it.

A long exposure from the embankment, so the river goes to glass and gives the bridge back almost whole. The bridge's own lights were on, which is what makes the gold, and the sky behind was doing the rest. Everyone who has stood here has a version of this frame. Mine has the embankment lamps in it, and the pontoon, and I have made my peace with both.

Part of Night Cities, a series.
