Coogee Beach at dawn with smooth pink and blue water washing over wet sand, the headland's lights still on under a violet sky.

First Light, Coogee

Coogee Beach, Sydney · February 2017

The streetlights hadn't given up yet.

Before the swimmers, before the coffee queue, Coogee belongs to the streetlights and whoever carried a tripod down the ramp. A longer shutter smoothed the shore break into a violet wash over the sand. The headland kept its lights on against the coming morning, and lost, the way it does every day of the year.
