Black-and-white panorama of a snow-covered mountain ridge streaked with dark rock, fog closing over the summits and still grey water below.

Ridge in Fog

Iceland · February 2018

1D X Mark II, 35 millimetres, f 5.6, 1/30 of a second, ISO 3200

Everything between grey and white.

The fjord was dead calm and the fog kept taking the summits and giving them back. There is no colour in this scene to remove — Icelandic winter shot it in black and white before I did. The picture lives in the narrow band between grey and white: rock streaks on snow, snow into fog, fog into water. Printed dark, it holds the quiet.

Part of Iceland in Winter, a series.
