A large bleached driftwood log lying on a stony lake shore, with pale rocks around it, flat grey water beyond and bare mountains under heavy cloud.

What the Lake Left

March 2018

Carried here, then abandoned here.

The log has clearly been in the water a long time — bleached, stripped, all its edges gone — and then the lake put it down and left. Cloud sitting low on the tops kept the whole scene in one flat grey key, which suits a subject this worn out.
